Since 1966, JM Murray has been the leading provider of services, employment and vocational training for individuals with disabilities in Central New York. The organization was founded by John Murray, and a group of local businessmen, with the realization that individuals with disabilities had few, if any, opportunities for paid work. Until now, JM Murray has been able to separate itself from other not-for-profit agencies, like us, because of our ability to sustain our agency without any substantial fundraising campaigns. However, now in our 60th year, we’re hoping to enhance the lives of our consumers even more, and we need your help to do it! In 2021, the JM Murray Foundation, a 501c3 organization, was established and seeded by a former JM Murray Board Chair. Since its inception, the foundation has primarily grown through unsolicited donations. The intent of the foundation is to enhance the experience of our consumers both within JM Murray, and in our community. While JM Murray is supported by a fee for service model and the revenue generated from our business division, we do have needs outside of our current ability to finance. Such enhancements for our consumers could be, but are not limited to:

–        Music, dance, art or horseback riding therapy.

–        Funding summer camps.

–        Assistance to first-time employees in the form of clothing, food, work supplies and transportation costs (including gas allowances) until payday.

–        Assistance to individuals living independently for the first time with cost incurred (including furnishings, bedding, linens, etc.).

Our goal is to achieve a total foundation balance of at least $3 million so that we can allocate at least 4-5% a year to enhancing the lives of our consumers in the ways mentioned above.
