JM Murray is soliciting donations so that we may enhance our ongoing advocacy to provide jobs and vocational training opportunities to individuals with disabilities.
Since our inception in October 1966, JM Murray has strongly supported the belief that the ability to earn a paycheck provides dignity and self-worth that anyone wishing to work should have the opportunity to achieve. Today there is state and federal legislation that would take away the choice and right to work for many individuals, especially those with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Will you help us advocate for them?
JM Murray is seeking a minimum of $10,000 in donations to match an already committed $10,000 private donation. With a total minimum ask of $20,000 JM Murray will enhance our advocacy on behalf of the over 80 individuals we currently employ, over 4000 fellow New York jobs and estimated 125,000 jobs across the country that are being threatened by the possible phasing out of Section 14c of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The vast majority of individuals we employ under our Section 14c certificate have intellectual or developmental disabilities that severely limit their ability to obtain fully competitive employment. The average age of our workforce is over 45. The average length of employment is over 14 years. They work on average over 20 hours a week at an average productivity level of less than 33% on a variety of low skilled, hand labor assembly work. With an estimated 10.1 million available jobs and only 125,000 individuals choosing to work under Section 14c across the country, wouldn’t they already be employed in fully competitive jobs if they were willing and able?
